We
are
proud to announce that two of the most prestigious locations in the
heart of London are illuminated by QL induction lighting since the end
of 2013.
The retrofit solutions were designed by our partner Environment
lighting. The first location is the prestigious Albert Embankment that
stretches from Westminster Bridge to the London Eye along the river
Thames.
The second retrofit solution was for the iconic Westminster Bridge. The
lanterns are arranged in groups of three supported on decorative cast iron columns.

ALBERT EMBANKMENT
The first location is the prestigious Albert Embankment that stretches from Westminster Bridge to the London Eye along the river Thames. Together with Environment Lighting we provided an energy efficient, low maintenance retro-fit lighting solution for the sturgeon lamp standards, which are the original designs of renowned Victorian architect George Vulliamy. These historical fittings adorn the Albert Embankment which stretches approximately One mile from Vauxhall Bridge to Westminster Bridge and the world famous Houses of Parliament.
Existing Light Source
The globe fitting is installed with a 70w Venture ballast and a Philips MASTER Colour
CDM-T 830 lamp.
QL Retrofit solution
A new simple plug and play retro-fit kit was quickly designed and manufactured by our partner, Environment Lighting, which allows easy removal of the old gear tray and a pre-assembled gear tray with the new QL ballast to be installed. Then two bolts that hold the new mounting plate for the pre assembled spindle are tightened, the lamp is easily twisted into place and it’s ready to be connected to the mains.
WESTMINSTER BRIDGE
After the successful installation of the retrofit solution on Albert Embankment, we were asked to provide an energy efficient, low maintenance retro-fit lighting solution for the iconic Westminster Bridge. Westminster Bridge was opened to traffic on Queen Victoria’s birthday 24 March 1862 when she turned 43 years of age. The lantern are arranged in groups of three supported on decorative cast iron columns. The lanterns are octagonal in shape and are formed with a non-ferrous metal framework, infill panels and glazing.
Existing Light Source
The triple headed lamp posts are installed with a 2 x 70w and
1 x 90w Philips ballast and a CDM-T 830 lamp. So a total
consumption of approximately 270w.
QL Retrofit solution
Newly designed 85W QL induction plug and play systems were
installed and returned to site within 24 hours to illuminate this
prestigious location for many years to come. The fittings were
collected in batches to be taken to a workshop then disassembled
and cleaned.
