City-wide retrofit project - San Martino Buon Albergo (Italy)

San Martino Buon Albergo is a municipality in the Province of Verona in the Italian
region Veneto, located about 100 kilometers west of Venice.
Archimede Servizi srl,
already in charge for S. Martino BA's maintenance of public
lighting, proposed
QL induction systems and the town council accepted the plan for
replacing their whole
public lighting, which will drastically reduce the costs (50%) and
the environmental
effects in terms of CO2 emissions (226.420 kg per year).
Approximately 2.200 (old)
high wattage HID lamps will be replaced by QL induction.

Already achieved results
The project started during August 2013 with the replacement of the first 300 mercury
vapour luminaires. At this moment 25% of the luminaires are converted to QL induction
and the energy consumption decreased with 65.000 Kwh. In just two months, the city
has saved € 15.000 and 41.000 kilograms of CO2. These first results are based on 2
months monitoring (November and December) and compared to the corresponding
period in 2012. The estimated return on investment is 2 years and 9 months.

Besides the savings on energy and maintenance, the new lighting solution also
improved the quality of light. People are able to recognize color much better and feel
more safe. For the retrofit, the equivalence table below has been followed:
